Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates

NEII has been working hard to stay on top of the rapidly evolving issues surrounding COVID-19 and its impact on our industry and workforce. This week, the Insider and our weekly Friday COVID-19 newsletters are combined. The Friday updates will continue for the duration of the crisis.

All of NEII's resources are available on our Coronavirus Resources webpage, which is updated daily. Download our latest (5/1/20) spreadsheet on the State/Local/Provincial executive orders and policy directives for added detail. Please keep in mind that this information is meant to be used as a resource and is not intended as legal guidance.

NEII Working with States to Reopen

NEII is working with states, cities and provinces as they implement their plans to reopen their economies. Towards this effort, NEII is providing AHJs with best practices to resume halted elevator construction and have made recommendations for continuing inspections and maintenance after weeks of inactivity. NEII has also collaborated with industry real estate partners and is publishing guidelines for building owners to use to reopen their elevators while keeping in mind social distancing and sanitation. NEII continues to serve as an industry voice during this time and will continue to advocate for policies that allow for the safest usage of building transportation equipment for riders and mechanics.

Building Safety Month

May marks the International Code Council’s 40th annual Building Safety Month. The international campaign reinforces the need for the adoption of modern, regularly-updated building codes and raises the awareness of the public to the importance of safety codes.

NEII is once again proud to serve as a partner for this important month of awareness about building safety. As you know, safety codes are critical to our mission at NEII, and Building Safety Month offers us an opportunity to amplify our commitment to promoting the highest level of safety and the importance of updated safety code adoption.
